Giltrap Group Top Half Series - done and dusted for another year

Four different competitions were held across the top half of the North Island over the last three months as part of the Giltrap Group Top Half Series 2022.  Events were hosted by Hamilton, Auckland, Te Puke and Tokoroa clubs.  The event saw kids, parents, family members and supporters travelling to each location for two days of intense racing.  As usual in motorsport there were highs and lows, with four rounds of racing and a final at each event making sure of that. Torrential rain caused chaos for Te Puke as the track received damage a week out from the competition - fortunately Kartsport Hamilton rose to the challenge and enabled the Te Puke crew to host Round Three back at the Hamilton track.  Great to have such a supportive community!

Within the individual series' events, we witnessed some outstanding driving and yes, a few minor incidents.  What's racing without the challenge of getting the kart just right for the conditions on the day? Overall it was a fantastic event, and Kartsport Auckland was well represented amongst the series top trophy winners in five of the eight categories.  Congratulations to them all including:

  • Cadet ROK: Senna Wilkinson (Series Winner)
  • Rotax Max Junior: Mathew Johnston (3rd)
  • Rotax Max Heavy: Aaron Tahu (2nd)
  • Rotax DD2: Daniel Mayall (3rd)
  • KZ2: Jason Lee (Series Winner), Luke Thompson (3rd)
